Ben Nevis
All of us on the SOS committee are constantly thinking of new and interesting ways of raising funds. As one project closes we have to move on and think
of another to replace it and so try to keep the money rolling in.
The 'Walkathon' was a great success but is now past and so its time to think of the next challenge.
It seems quite a few of you enjoy walking so here is the latest idea.
I propose if enough interest is shown to get a mini bus and sell the seats for a minimum donation of £50.It will be upto individuals to raise the
money by getting sponsorship to ascend Ben Nevis.By the time you approach husbands, wives, girlfriends, boyfriends, parents,Aunts,Uncles,
brothers, sisters, colleagues at work etc you will quickly muster that amount easily.
I think a day in July would be best to try and get some descent weather. The walk is about 14km and has an ascent from Glen Nevis of 1340m,so not too
easy but achieveable for anyone determined enough.
You will need a good pair of boots, waterproofs, hats, gloves and a rucksack and do the walk at your own risk.Oh yes and plenty of water as it can be
thirsty work.
At the end I suggest a good curry/pizza or what ever else takes peoples fancy and beer in Fort William!.
This is the biggest mountain in the UK at 4409ft,if you fancy joining me and getting to the top and hoisting the County flag post here and we can get
this set up.Thanks.

I take it it will be the Tourist Route to the top?
I've yet to see the views from Ben Nevis as it has always pee'd it down when I have been there.
Put me down for it.
Can I reccomend the Grog 'n' Gruel in Ft Wm High Street for somethign to eat afterwards? It has always been excellent whenever I have been in there
for a post-mountian meal
Edited to add this link if anyone is interested in finding out a bit more:

The views are brilliant have been up once in pishing weather but once in lovely sunshine (although it got to hot!!) what a day makes it even better if
you get to the top and see the view although it was sooo hot.

I think the Tourist Route is the best option Cairntoul.Good link by the way.If anyone is interested in joining us take a look at it.Imagine telling
all your friends on Monday back at work that you scaled the UKs highest peak that weekend,it beats sitting around doing nothing,so why not join in
and have a good day out.
I am going to try and get some sponsor forms printed up next week as this seems to be taking off.I will be in touch when I have some to give
out.Thanks.

I have had another 2 people come on board tonight so that makes 7 in total now.One definately has never been up a Munro so if they can volunteer and
do it dont let the fact you never have done one put you off.As long as you are reasonably fit you can manage. We will all go up together and only go as
fast as the slowest person.
The support shown in such a short space of time has been first class.Ross County means a lot to us all and for so many people to step forward and join
in is brilliant.

With the fantastic start to this venture I thought I had better come up with a date.I looked at the calendar this morning and wondered how Saturday
15th July would suit everyone?.By going on a Saturday then people could have a rest on the Sunday before going back to work.Let me know what you think
and we can then push this forward.
I had a U2U message from one of the participants last night,he said to me that he has never done a Munro,so thats at least 2 of the party who have
never done one so like I have said dont let the fact you are a novice put you off. This is going to be a fun day out with fellow County fans and will
be as much a social occasion as a day in the hills so if you are healthy and reasonably fit why not join in?.

I would like to do this, but am going to canada mid july, any chance doing it earlier in the month?

Earlier in the month may be a better option as 15th July is probably the first date for pre-season games. The season starts 29th July this year

Don't choose the 8th as that's T in the Park weekend, bound to reduce the numbers.
