The last two home games has seen absolutely terrible atmospheres in the ground.

I know people will say the players need to give us something to cheer about - how about a 19 league game unbeaten run ??? Is that not enough to cheer about ??

Even though, it's a two way street. Players can lift the fans, but the fans need to lift the players too!
We (as in the fans) only got (half) going today after Ayr scored, but that was too little too late.

I think the players have proved this season that they all give 100% in each game, so I really think it's about time that us fans started doing the same.

We really need to make Victoria Park a hard place to visit.
*Encourage our own players
*Appeal every decision - whether you think it's right or not, put the referee under pressure
*Get on the opposition players back, make it an uncomfortable 90 minutes for them.

As a starting point, if anyone is interested in bringing the drum back into the Jailend (or any other part of the ground) then if you contact the club before Tuesday, they'll organise for you to get it on the night.

We're in a good league position just now, but if we are going to get over the finishing line, then the fans are going to have to play their part too...

For the second successive Saturday the Ross County away support were left gutted to come away with a draw at the end of the ninety minutes. Richard Brittain’s penalty miss deep into injury time last week - in the Scottish Cup tie against SPL side St. Mirren - provided the Paisley side with an unlikely replay in Dingwall on Valentine’s night. The prize for the winners being an away quarter final tie against either St. Johnstone or Hearts.

Raith Rover’s 89th. minute equaliser today denied the Dingwall side all three points in their quest to secure SPL football next season. Steven Craig’s 53rd. minute goal was cancelled out by Jamie Walker’s late leveller. Once again second and third placed Falkirk and Dundee failed to take advantage. Their separate league draws today mean that Ross County maintain their five-point advantage at the top of the league. County have also played two games less than each of their closest challengers.

Today’s game was the seventeenth time that Ross County have played Raith Rovers in a competitive fixture at Starks Park since joining the SFL. Today’s draw was the third time that the teams have shared the points. Raith have only won four times in that series - leaving ten competitive victories for the Highlanders in Kirkcaldy.

Derek Adams decided to make one change to the starting eleven that had come so close to dumping the Buddies out of the Scottish Cup seven days previously. Paul Lawson was introduced in place of midfielder Stuart Kettlewell who dropped out of the squad of sixteen. With a very heavy schedule of games coming up - including re-arranged midweek league games - the County boss once again decided to use the depth of the experienced squad. Lawson was given the deep protective midfield job that Richard Brittain had been given last week, as County once again started with an uncharacteristic 4-1-4-1 formation. For the second successive week Colin McMenamin was given the sole striker role with support from wide ‘midfielders’ Mark Corcoran and Steven Craig. Lawson’s place on the subs. bench was taken by Johnny Flynn who joined St. Mirren game subs. Joe Malin, Alex Cooper, Kurtis Byrne and Sam Morrow. Out of favour Dundee United bound striker Michael Gardyne and midfielder Rocco Quinn also travelled with the squad.

Rovers lined up with a more attack minded 4-3-3 formation.

With no supporters’ busses running from Ross-shire today the County away support of almost 500 last week was reduced to about 150 this week. The segregated County support viewed the game from their usual position in the stand behind the goals and formed part of a poor official attendance of only 1,702.

During the first half County - wearing their change strip of white shirts, red shorts / socks - were shooting towards the goal located at the opposite end of the away stand.

Raith came close in the first minute when a low Joe Hamill shot from the left edge of the penalty box was narrowly deflected over the bar by the outstretched foot of ex-Dunfermline striker Pat Clarke.

County’s first attempt came on 9 minutes when Mark Corcoran made space for himself by running at pace with the ball along the edge of the 18-yard box. His low shot was deflected wide of the left hand post for a County corner. Following the corner the ball broke to Iain Vigurs. His vicious rising shot from 22 yards out- on the left - whizzed over the middle of the bar.

One minute later John Baird squandered a great chance to put Rovers ahead. The County central defence failed to deal with a long Willie Dyer cross from the left played into the penalty spot area. As a result the ball fell straight to the feet of the lurking home striker. In space - and with more time than he realised - Baird’s rushed shot from 12 yards out narrowly cleared the left upright, with County keeper Fraser caught well off his line. A real let off for County.

Mid-way through the first half Mark Corcoran came agonisingly close to putting County in front. Paul Lawson set up the left midfielder with a neat pass at the edge of the area. Corcoran drove forward with the ball. Although his low left-footed shot from 16 yards out was hit with power it cleared the right-hand post by a couple of inches with home keeper David McGurn diving low at full stretch.

The general pattern of the first half hour was that County were pressing their hosts back deep into their own half with the home side quite content to play on the counter. Although County had forced a number of corners during this time it was notable that two of these deliveries - taken from the right by Vigurs and Brittain - both failed to get past the near post defender.

County’s first effort on target came on 35 mins. With the County heavy artillery lining up in the box a Vigurs free kick from 25 yards out was weakly played straight into the arms of David McGurn.

Raith’s first effort on target came a minute later. It followed from their first corner of the game. Grant Murray connected with Joe Hamill’s delivery at the penalty spot area. The centre back’s looping header was gratefully clutched by Michael Fraser just under the centre of the bar.

In the next minute - and at the other end of the park - a Brittain corner taken from the left- once again failed to beat the near post defender. The ball was headed out for another corner. The County midfielder’s second corner was floated into the back post area. Colin McMenamin did well to connect with the ball at full stretch. However the County striker’s header lacked power and was easily held by McGurn on his goal-line.

The last chance of the first-half fell to Richard Brittain just before the break. A Vigurs corner kick from the left fell to the County captain at the right edge of the penalty box. His first time effort on the volley was ballooned over the bar.

So at the end of the first half neither side had managed to impose any real authority - in a game of very limited clear cut chances - in what was a very poor advert for SFL D1………

One positive aspect of Derek Adam’s management style is that he is quick to change tactics when a change is needed.

At the start of the second-half County looked much more cohesive and threatening when Steven Craig was moved further forward to partner sole striker Colin McMenamin, as County changed to a more direct 4-4-2 formation.

Twice within the first two minutes of the restart County had two good chances to take the lead as they started to play with urgency and purpose for the first time in the game.

Firstly a Corcoran cross from the left very narrowly failed to find the head of the leaping McMenamin at the penalty spot mark when the slightest of contact would have diverted the pacy ball into the net. Shortly afterwards McMenamin did well to chase down a home defender and nick the ball off his toes. With Steven Craig racing in space into the six yard box in support, McMenamin’s low delivery - from inside the left side of the box - was played behind Craig meaning that the chance was lost.

County opened the scoring on 53 mins. when Steven CRAIG lashed the ball low and hard into the net from close range. The goal resulted from a superbly worked move. Iain Vigurs drove into the left side of the penalty box with the ball at his feet - at pace. He played a perfectly weighted low pass behind the Raith right back into the path of Mark Corcoran. Corcoran raced to the bye-line, looked up and played a short pass into the path of the County striker who had timed his run perfectly. A goal executed with clinical precision.

One minute later County came very close to doubling their lead. Corcoran showed great vision by floating a perfectly weighted cross ball- from midway inside the attacking half on the left - into the path of Colin McMenamin. The striker’s header from the penalty spot area was well saved and held by home keeper McGurn on the goal-line.

After this the pace of the game picked up as the game flowed end to end. As a result of the County goal Raith were forced to be more cavalier.

They came closed to equalising on 55 mins. Michael Fraser pulled off a great save by diving low to his left to thwart a low, powerful, free-kick taken from 25 yards out - on the right. The effort had been expertly curled around the County defensive wall. Scott Boyd was quickest to react and showed great positional sense by booting the spilled ball away from danger just in front of goal.

In the next minute County broke on the counter attack. Mark Corcoran - who was having his best game in a County shirt - broke at pace down the left from just inside the defending half. He slipped the ball past two home players at ease and raced towards goal unchallenged. For a reason only known to referee Callum Murray - and to the fury of the County support - the whistler stopped play and awarded the home side a free kick. On that kind of form the money was on Corcoran to finish the job and put County 2-0 up.

On the hour mark the same player came close to extending County’s lead. This time he ran into the right side of the penalty box. David McGurn pulled off a great save by managing to get a touch on Corcoran’s vicious effort from 14 yards out. As a result the rising shot was narrowly diverted over the centre of the bar for a County corner.

Six minutes later Raith came very close to equalising as the play flowed from end to end. A home corner - taken from the left - ended up at the right edge of the box. Michael Fraser misjudged the shot by parrying the effort straight into the path of a home player leaving the goals exposed. Fortunately for County Grant Munro saved the day by clearing the resulting close range shot off the goal line.

The home side once again came very close with 19 mins. of regulation time left. Home striker John Baird clearly fell over, some 25 yards from goal. Inexplicably the man in charge awarded a free kick to the home side. The powerful free-kick taken from the left was expertly curled around the County defensive wall and went very narrowly wide of the near post.

In the next minute County squandered a great chance to put the game out of reach in a lightning counter attack. Colin McMenamin chased a long Corcoran flighted ball - played from midway inside the County defensive half - down the left channel. The home defence were caught out. The County striker raced past Reece Donaldson with ease into the left side of the box. With only the keeper to beat - and with the unmarked Steven Craig racing forward in support in the centre of the penalty box - McMenamin decided to go for goal himself. Home keeper McGurn did well to narrow his angle and parried McMenamin’s close range effort away, from a tight angle. The simplest of passes to Steven Craig would surely have resulted in a second goal. Craig was quite rightly furious with his fellow striker. This happened right in front of the County support.

On 74 mins. Raith’s Damian Casalinuovo was clearly seen to take a dive inside the County defending box when Grant Munro had cleanly won the ball. The hopeful boos of the home support at the lack of a penalty award were contrasted with the shouts from the away end for the home striker to be booked for diving. As it was play continued.

With fifteen minutes left Scott Boyd had to leave the park for treatment when he took a nasty head knock. Despite waiting to come back on referee Murray was oblivious to this as it took a full two minutes before the County central defender was allowed to re-enter play. Bizarrely Boyd had to sprint off two minutes later to be bandaged up for the same injury.

At the same time home manager John McGlynn introduced Brian Graham to the play in place of the ineffective Pat Clarke.

With nine minutes left Steven Craig left the pitch - to a standing ovation from the County support - as he was replaced by Sam Morrow.

One minute later a low Iain Vigurs shot from the left edge of the penalty box went well wide of the left hand post.

On 83 mins. Raith striker Damian Casalinuovo was replaced by on loan Hearts youngster Jamie Walker.

With four minutes left Colin McMenamin was booked for kicking the ball back to where a County foul had taken place - just as the home side were lining up to take the free kick - some 10 yards forward of the infringement.

One minute later County replacement striker Sam Morrow was unlucky when he narrowly failed to make connection with a chipped ball played to the penalty spot area. Home keeper McGurn showed good awareness by racing off his line to get to the ball marginally before Morrow.

With one minute of regulation time left Raith equalised when substitute Jamie WALKER lashed the ball low and hard diagonally into the net from 5 yards out from the left. The goal resulted directly from lax play from Iain Vigurs. The County midfielder needlessly gave the ball away in midfield - just inside the County defending half - when a punt up the park would have been the easier option. As a result Walker ran at the heart of the County defence at pace. He laid the ball off to fellow sub. Brian Graham on the left side of the penalty box. Graham got to the bye-line and cut the ball back to Walker who had continued his run. Walker showed good composure by slotting the return pass into the net from close range.

Two minutes into added time Raith came very close to snatching an undeserved winner. Michael Fraser pulled off a stunning save by parrying away a vicious John Baird shot - from 18 yards - out for a corner. The last gasp chance had resulted from a miscued Brittain clearance that had only reached the edge of the 18 yard box.

At the end of the day a draw was probably a fair result. An under performing County team had faced a Raith Rovers side who had raised their game.

Despite this County managed to not only maintain their five point advantage at the top of the table but also had preserved their long unbeaten run.

Well done lads………….
